News

The 96th Academy Awards set stage on March 10, 2024 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. With 23 categories to honor the biggest films of the year, Jimmy Kimmel returned to host the show for his fourth time.

This year, ten actors received their debut Oscar nominations, including Jodie Foster and Lily Gladstone; Gladstone was also the first Native American actress to be nominated. Other noteworthy nominations included director Steven Spielberg building his record for the most Best Picture nominations up to thirteen, Martin Scorssese earning his tenth nomination for Best Director, Thelma Schoonmaker securing her ninth nomination for Best Film Editing, and composer John Williams achieving his 54th nomination.

Nomination leaders for the night included Oppenheimer (13 nominations), Poor Things (11 nominations), and Killers of the Flower Moon (10 nominations).

The cultural phenomenon, and theme of Cosmic’s 2023 Christmas Card, “Barbenheimer'' made its mark on the night, as Oppenheimer and Barbie went head to head in six categories. Despite Barbie only winning one award, Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell made history as the youngest two-time Oscar winners when "What Was I Made For?” took home Best Original Song. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer secured seven awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Emma Stone won the Best Actress award for her performance in Poor Things, with the film also earning awards for Production Design, Costume Design, as well as Makeup and Hairstyling.

To get in on the fun, Cosmic hosted an Oscars competition, encouraging participants to award points to who they predicted would take home the biggest awards of the night.

Congratulations to our winner, Gary Rex!
